The BBC writes to Tolkien for permission to broadcast a portion of his translation of the Middle English poem Pearl.
Notes
The letter is assumed to be sent by Guy Pocock who had joined the BBC earlier in 1936.
Tolkien will reply on the same day giving permission and the broadcast takes place on 22 August 1936, on local London radio at 11.40pm.
