J.R.R. Tolkien
To
Nathan C. Starr
Date
2 June 1955

Autograph Letter Signed
Transcript

Tolkien writes that he has been involved with administrative duties as well as other distractions. He hopes that Nathan Starr has The Two Towers and is not disappointed with it. He notes that volume 3 (The Return of the King) will be the real test of the stories success.

Tolkien goes on to discuss the "Bird and Baby" and its survival. Lewis is in Cambridge and the Monday night date is hard to keep up. And finishes by leaving an invitation open for them both to visit it if Starr can visit.
