Originally published as just a fragment of a thank you letter to Stanley Unwin who had written that Tolkien was "one of those rare people with genius."

In the revised 2023 edition of Letters, the entire letter is reproduced. Tolkien confirms their lunch meeting on 27 October, and his train will arrive at Paddington at 12.5pm. Stanley Unwin had been bedridden with a heavy cold, and Tolkien thanks him for answering from his bed.
