Tolkien had been asked to give a Lecture at the University of Glasgow, which he accepted.

Notes

He gave the lecture on the 15th April 1953 for the W.P. Ker Memorial Lecture, on Sir Gawain and the Green Knight. The lecture was later published in The Monsters and the Critics, and Other Essays.
