Tolkien writes to Professor Jewkes who was at one time his next-door neighbour at Merton College. He apologises for not being more involved with socialising at the College.
He wishes him a happy Christmas but mentions that "Ents do not really approve of Yule logs!". Finally he states that he is going to Studley Priory, an Oxfordshire hotel at the time, for Christmas.
