Writing to Douglas Veale, Tolkien remarks that his 10th February inquiry was at that time was not an application for leave. He says he had hoped to apply for leave over two terms, including Trinity Term, but that has proven impossible. He asks Veale for leave during Michaelmas Term 1949 and Hilary Term 1950.
