In reply to a letter from his father, Letter from Stanley Unwin to Rayner Unwin • c. end of February - early March 1950 (#2763)[1] Rayner Unwin says that Tolkien's Lord of the Rings is a great work and deserves to be published. He felt no lack of The Silmarillion and brings up the suggestion that an editor (maybe a son?) could edit in relevant portions from the earlier works. The portion about Rings was included by Stanley Unwin in Letter from Sir Stanley Unwin to J.R.R. Tolkien • 3 April 1950 (#1525)[2]
