Ida Gordon replies to Tolkien's letter, see Letter from J.R.R. Tolkien to Ida Gordon • ?June 1950 (#2772). She asks for further help on the Pearl edition, namely on two points to which she cannot understand Tolkien's handwriting. She also notes that the Secretary of the Clarendon Press at Oxford University would like to have the completed work by the end of September. Tolkien replies ^{Letter from J.R.R. Tolkien to Ida Gordon • c. late July or early August 1950 (#2775)[1]} some time after this before Gordon sends the material to the Clarendon Press on 19 August.
