TCG Letter #2781

From
Stanley Unwin
To
J.R.R. Tolkien
Date
9 August 1950
Type
Unknown
Transcript
Unknown
After Tolkien had written to W.N. Beard, remarking that he was surprised that the revised Hobbit had been put into print, see Carpenter's Letter #128 (J.R.R. Tolkien to Allen & Unwin Ltd., 1 August 1950), Stanley Unwin replies that he is disturbed by the surprise. He reminds Tolkien that they had decided on this back in September 1947, see Letter from Stanley Unwin to J.R.R. Tolkien • 27 September 1947 (#2246). He notes that the revised text will at first only be available in the US market and will be adopted when The Hobbit is reprinted in the UK, and also asks Tolkien for suggestions for a note to explain the new text.
