Writing to C.A. Furth, Tolkien expresses gratitude for the enclosed cheque for royalities for 1938 and an advance of the royalties from Houghton Mifflin. Tolkien mentions that having flu did not affect him significantly but his throat condition is worsening. He intends to have his work typed and submit it, which he plans to finish before 15 June if it meets with approval.
