Tolkien thanks 'Master' Clements for his appreciation of The Hobbit and suggests that "the other books I have written which you might enjoy, Farmer Giles of Ham and The Lord of the Rings", explaining that "this is really three books", and adding in the autograph postscript "This may sound a bit 'stiff', but you did not tell me your name; but it was a very good letter".
