This letter comes shortly after Tolkien had written to W.H. AudenCarpenter #284: Letter from J.R.R. Tolkien to W.H. Auden • 23 February 1966 (#657)[1] and he copies a paragraph from that letter into this. Tolkien is not happy with any proposed book on him from Auden, as can be read in the published letter Letter from J.R.R. Tolkien to Patricia Kirke • 24 December 1956 (#284)
