Anthony Howlett, born in 1924 in Peterborough, was a barrister for the Board of Trade and was Remembrancer of the City of London.
A senior official and chief law officer for the City of London Corporation.

He revived the Sherlock Holmes Society of London, growing it to one of the biggest literary societies in Britain at that time in the years after World War II. He attended King's College before taking part in the D-Day landings. After the war he studied law at Trinity College, Cambridge. He died in August, 2003 at the age of 78.
