Tolkien replies to a letter from Johnston. He had sent Tolkien a copy of his booklet The Poetry of J.R.R. Tolkien. Tolkien thanks him and says that when he was young "root" was used as "boot" is now, i.e. slang for "kick". Tolkien closes saying that he will soon move from Oxford.
