1997 The Hobbit, Signed, Limited Numbered Edition - published by Harper Collins. Number 193 of a Limited Edition of only 250, (Australia, Canada, New Zealand release) especially bound and slipcased to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the first publication of The Hobbit. Quarter bound in Burgundy leather and cloth volume, housed in the publisher's original burgundy clothbound slipcase. The book was also dressed with a gilt title, gilded fore edges, and gilt image of Smaug on the book and slipcase. Signed by the renowned Tolkien artist, Alan Lee. The book was purchased by me, as a bookseller in 1997 and remains unread. This book has been carefully handled and cared for and in my possession for the past 27 years. I recall slightly opening the the pages in 1997 to gaze at Alan Lee’s colour plates. The second time i’ve opened the book was to take photos this week. I’ve searched high and low for other recent examples of this calibre but to avail. This book is in exceptional condition and will be sent in a vacuum seal bag with full tracking and insurance.
