The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien Boston and New York: Houghton Mifflin Company, 1938. First American edition, third state with a flute player on the title page, and Chapter VII is correct on page 118. Bound in publisher's original buff cloth stamped in blue and red; lacking the dust jacket. This is a library book that appears to have never been circulated, a very rare find indeed. In outstanding condition. It has a small library book plate on the front map. The title page, and the first page of the text, have a very neat perforated library mark. There are no other library marks or additions. The book is clean throughout. A beautiful copy. More photographs can be sent on request.
