This set is notoriously hard to find as 1st printings in 1st state dust jackets, considerably rarer than the UK 1st/1st The Fellowship jacket has the 'd' clipped on Frodo on the 10th line of the rear flap The Two Towers has a nick on the front of the jacket on the upright of the 'r' on the word Towers. The Return of the King has the larger '5' on the $5.00. The dust jackets have chipping, closed tears and minor losses but NO repairs or restoration The dust jackets on The Two Towers and The Return of the King have some light foxing. The Two Towers is price clipped. There are no signatures, inscriptions or book plates. The text is clean throughout. All three have the map present. The map on The Fellowship is loosely inserted and not attached to the book. A true 1st/1st set. Very scarce indeed.
