Condition: Book and jacket in good only condition with various faults
For sale is a 1955 7th impression of The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien in an 8th impression dustjacket. The book is tight and clean and has two owners' inscriptions on the first blank leaf after the illustrated endpaper. The boards are very presentable with just a few tiny marks and fading mostly round the spine area. Page 13/14 is heavily creased and has quite a few words partially erased, possibly by rubbing although everything can be read . The rest of the text has escaped this damage apart from a couple of small creases and is happily very bright. The top edges are tinted green though faded and the edges generally are in good order with just a few small marks. The jacket is housed in a film/paper cover which is easily removed if not required. The jacket is in two parts which are divided at the spine. Obviously the film/paper cover holds everything together. There is significant loss, especially to the spine but a lot of essential information, including the price (twice) and impression number, is present. I have no reason to suppose that the 7th imp. book and 8th imp. jacket don't belong together as it was quite common for this to happen in 2nd edition copies when matching supplies were short. All in all a good copy of an increasingly rare early example of Professor Tolkien's classic tale.Postage will be Royal Mail next day special delivery unless this presents a problem
