The Two Towers
J.R.R. Tolkien
1956 - London: Allen & Unwin
Today, "Lord of the Rings" is known by billions of people globally, be it through books, movies/TV, or videogames. In 1956, when this 4th imprint was printed, the people worldwide who knew its story numbered only in the thousands. It's amazing to think what a future awaited. In "The Two Towers" the fellowship has broken apart into its own adventures - Frodo & Sam toward the towers of Mordor, the rest toward the armies of Saruman who commanded them from his tower at Orthanc. Along the way both find unexpected dangers & allies. The book also ends with possibly the best cliffhanger in literature: "The bars of iron fell into place... Frodo was alive but taken by the Enemy."
CONDITION
Exterior VG, Interior VG+. This is a lovely book. The boards, spine, and top fore-edge have retained their deep red tone. Covers have just light soiling. Spine gilding has faded but is still present. Book is slightly shelf-cocked but still stands fine. Inside, the book is nearly Fine except for a very few slight signs of use. Textblock is tightly bound with nothing sprung or loose, pages are bright & crisp, foldout map is exceptionally bright & well-preserved. A real joy of a book. Good Luck & Happy Bidding!
