Condition: dust jackets have edgewear; first volume is 4th printing, second and third volumes are 3rd printing; third volume has bent pages
Found at an estate sale, this vintage 1965 Tolkien "Lord of the Rings" 2nd edition hardcover boxed set with volumes from the 3rd and 4th printings is in good overall condition but does show its age in some respects. The publisher is Houghton Mifflin. As is the case with many of these sets, the upper spine corners of the dust jackets, now protected by removable Mylar covers, have some definite edgewear. All three have chips and short mended tears. The third volume also has a group of pages with bent upper corners in the middle (see photo). As is also common with these sets, the three volumes are not all from the same printing. The first volume, The Fellowship of the Ring, is a 4th printing and the second and third volumes, The Two Towers and Return of the King, are 3rd printings. The dust jackets have protected all three volumes well. All have bright spine titles and cover ornaments. Each also has the fold-out map at the back. None have the owner's name or any other marks, nor do any have missing or torn pages. The slipcase box is also in good condition (see photos). The last photo shows the books with their newly added Mylar dust jacket protectors. If you're dissatisfied with this boxed set in any way, you can return it in the same condition in which you received it within 30 days for a full refund. Washington state residents pay 10% state and local sales tax. Choice of shipping by USPS Media Mail or Priority Mail with no extra handling charge in either case.
