J.R.R.TOLKIEN THE HOBBIT & THE LORD OF THE RINGS THE SILMARILLION 3 (1,2 & 3) BOOKSTHE RUINS OF OSGILIATH TALES OF THE FIRST CITY OF GONDOR by ALEX LEWISfound the following information over : The Ruins of Osgiliath.Tales of the First City of Gondor.By Alex Lewis Published by Khand Smial,1990. The rare first of three paperback booklets by Alex Lewis which several years later were published together in revised form in The Ruins of Osgiliath:The Complete Tales of the First City of Gondor .This booklet was published in a signed limited edition of only 100 numbered copies of which this is number 36,signed and hand numbered by Alex Lewis. The book is a collection of short tales which are all based within the historical framework and subcreative environment of Middle-earth.The book comprises 48 pages, printed on only one side. The pages are numbered 1 to 48 by hand it would seem in the top right corner and each story is also numbered (other than the first story) in the centre of the top margin of the page. The titles of the five stories can be seen in the pictures.Page 11 has a correction in hand(see pictures). The publication date is taken from the last page of the text and the author's introduction where he states that "A second volume of Ruins of Osgiliath may appear at Oxonmoot 1991 if the response to the present collection is favourable"-see pictures. The author states in his introduction that all proceeds of the sale of this book would be used to purchase a memorable gift for Priscilla Tolkien,Vice President of the Tolkien Society,to be presented at the 1992 Society Conference,1992 being the centenary of the birth of her father J.R.R.Tolkien.Alex Lewis was the Chairman of the Tolkien Society at the time. The book is rectangular in format ,produced with the spine on the shorter side of that rectangle i.e.the bottom edge.Clear glassine front cover.Measures around 21cm in height and 15cm in width. Paperback.Printed illustrated front cover beneath clear glassine.White tape spine as issued.A little very light creasing but generally hardly any signs of wear.Solidly bound.Internally clean and bright.Very slight foxing to the page edges. There are no ownership markings other than the author's. A Very Good book. Rare. &Are these my favourite stories set in Tolkien universe? Absolutely not. But as a collector's piece, I absolutely love these."The Ruins of Osgiliath," written by Alex Lewis, was created for the Tolkien Society. The sales of the 100 signed and numbered copies were to go towards a present for Priscilla Tolkien.Since these original 1990 prints, only another 212 copies have been created (all single books with the three originals combined). 12 specials, and two other bound runs of 100 each.My copies are in almost perfect condition, and signed and numbered. The first book is page-numbered by hand and all three are bound from the bottom. What I love about them is that they offer me a very tangible link to J.R.R's family. They feel part of a broader Tolkien world. Perhaps it's just my whimsical nature, but when I hold these, I feel like I have something magical in my hands!Condition: Paperback.Printed illustrated front cover beneath clear glassine.White tape spine as issued.A little very light creasing but generally hardly any signs of wear.Solidly bound.Internally clean and bright.Very slight foxing to the page edges. There are no ownership markings other than the author's.A Very Good book.A MUST HAVE FOR ANY TOLKIEN COLLECTOR ?But if you have a question or want more details or pictures ? please ask& REMEMBER YOU ALWAYS CAN MAKE ME A BID OFFER ??Payment : EBAY SYSTEM / OR ANY OTHER WAY AS WE LIKEMailing : Deutsche Post/ Post.nl priority mail (risk buyer) LIKE to combine shipments so we hope to save on mailingcost (I MAKE A PICTURE OF THE COVER BEFORE SENDING TO BE SURE-PROOF FOR THE RIGHT ADDRESS)I go ones a week to the Post office (live outsite) so please understand the delivery time !!GOOD LUCK BIDDING
