J.R.R. Tolkien The Hobbit Second Edition. 4th impression, 8th overall. In 7th impression dust jacket, repriced and used for some copies of the 8th impression, showing the new price of 12s 6d. overprinted on the front flap of the dust jacket, which is rarer for a 1956 printing. According to** In January 1956, Allen & Unwin instructed the binders to cut away the 9s.6d price printed on the remaining 1,260 A&U jackets and overprint with the new price of 12s.6d. This work on the jackets was not invoiced until March. The dust jacket in is good condition with tears, and some small losses on the top of spine. Third of the spine which is missing, as pictured. Good condition overall. Now in removable protected mylar cover protection. As explained above, the flaps of the dust jackets have been priced clipped by the publisher to overprint a new price. Book is in very good condition, there is a previous owner name on the first half title page written by a pencil, which has been neatly erased (ses pictures). The last page contains pencil notes about the characters and attributes. Top text block and is still green with discolourations. Cloth has also some small yellowing.Other wise in very good condition, no foxing on pages and edges! Paper is still really smooth and clean.
