Boas Publisher: The English Association, Oxford University Press, London Publication Date: 1924 Binding: Hard Cover Edition: 1st Edition / 1st Impression Item Description: Hard Cover. 1st Ed. 22 x 14 cm., 276 pp. 1250 copies printed. See Hammond B6, pp. 284. Includes review essay, ‘Philology: General Works’, by J. R. R. Tolkien, pp. 20-37. This covers philological books and articles published in 1923. It includes a fairly lengthy discussion of two newly published sections of the OED (Wash-Wavy and Wh-Whisky) which may include some words that Tolkien worked on during his time at the Dictionary. Wove paper. Bound in grey-brown paper over boards. Spine stamped in black. Wove endpapers. Bottom edge trimmed, top and fore-edge untrimmed. CONDITION. Very Good. Overall tight binding and text in good condition internally. Small neat ownership inscription on first blank page, else no marks, underlining or torn pages. Housed in a removable Brodart protector. A scarce and wonderful find for the Tolkien enthusiast and collector. Especially in this condition. It would look great on your bookshelf with The Year’s Work in English Studies Vol. V, 1924 and The Year’s Work in English Studies Vol. VI, 1925 which I also have for sale. I have some other very scarce and collectible Tolkien books listed. Win more than one auction andsave on shipping.
