Stamped on spine in black.Top edge stained orange. 1250 copies were printed but 162 copies were destroyed in the binder’s warehouse during the bombing of London on November 7, 1940. Tolkien's contribution on pages vii-xli is entitled Prefatory Remarks on Prose Translation of"Beowulf". Condition: Very slight bumping to bottom and corner of upper board else Fine. Dustwrapper has light toning to spine and very minor shelfwear to corner folds and head of spine. A wonderfulexample of a dustjacket that is almost 80 years old. A very collectible copy of this item in a wonderful dustjacket which is protected in a removableBrodart cover. Very rarely comes up for sale, especially in this condition.
