First Edition, First printing, Second State An usually clean vibrant copy of the FIRST printing, in the second state dated 1938 to the title page with the sitting elf playing the flute. (First Printing in the first state have a bowing elf). Unrestored and in lovely clean, crisp bright condition. The oatmeal cloth boards are have only a few spots, and are otherwise bright. The end papers and internal pages are in perfect condition. True First US printing in internal crisp clean condition. The unrestored book still maintains bright cloth that is NOT age toned or faded, and only has a few spots. The book has sharp corners with a tight and square binding. Slight corner and spine tip wear. The internal pages are clean, and bright with no owner names, no bookplates, no bookstore stamps and no inscriptions. The internal pages are clean, bright and flat with no stains, no marks, no foxing, no writing, and no bent pages. Very clean, crisp book, appearing as unread. This copy has the sitting elf playing the flute on the title page which makes this book a True edition, First printing in the second state. This is the only copy on the market at this time, with the other first printings in the first state priced at $10,000 and up, and even then with issues and foxing. A clean example and delightful to read. Accompanied by a facsimile dust jacket which both protects the book in addition to enhancing its shelf appeal.
