The Hobbit by J. R. R. Tolkien. London: George Allen and Unwin, [1976]. Second impression of this De Luxe edition, [1979]. Octavo. Publisher’s black cloth, gilt lettering and rulling to the spine, illustrated on front cover with Tolkien's Green Dragon in gilt, silver and red, all edges speckled. With the Tolkien line drawings colorised by H. E. Riddett. Housed in the original publisher’s tray case with label with titles to front.
A very good copy, binding with a very tiny lean but firm, with covers a tad splashed but gilt work nice and bright, with spine tips slightly bumped and a small ding to crown, with pages clean and bright and without any previous owner's inscriptions. In the tray case that is quite heavily worn to extremities and has split corners held together with small amounts of (non-archival) tape applied on the inside, as well as a lightly tanned and stained label, but that is otherwise structurally sound.
The second impression of the first deluxe edition of Tolkien's classic tale of Bilbo Baggins' adventures out of the Shire.
