For sale, the hardcover with dust jacket copy of The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien that is shown in the pictures. This book measures about 5" x 7-5/8" and contains 315 pages. As described by TolkienBooks.US this is a 1951 5th Printing (variant 5a). It was published by Houghton Mifflin for distribution in the US, but printed by Unwin Bros. in Great Britain. Significantly, it has the green cover with a dragon which was dropped in subsequent US printings. Information about this printing can be found here:

This book is in good condition. The dust jacket is shredded, but the covers are clean. The corners have bumping like shown in picture #5. The top and bottom edge of the spine has wear like shown in picture #7. There is a small dent on the top of the covers that is shown in picture #8. The vertical edges of the the pages have some spotting that doesn't extend into the book as shown in picture #10. There is spotting/yellowing on the inside of the front and back covers that can be seen in pictures #11 and #24. There are just few interior pages with small spots.There is a small tear at the bottom of page 130 near the binding that is shown in picture #15. The bottom corner of several pages were stubbed and had small folds as a result. These were flattened as shown in pictures #18 and #19. The pages have moderate yellowing from age and a very mild old book smell. Otherwise the binding is good and the inside is clean. There is no other spotting, folds or tears and there are no writings or missing pages. Shipping is $12 including insurance and signature confirmed delivery.
