For what it's worth, the author reached out to me on social media and said this book is "not a biography." When I asked if he could describe his aim in the book he said: "Teenage Tolkien fan returns to his obsession many years later with the aim of examining it objectively with the biographical and critical tools now at his disposal." So, fair enough. I hope it will be interesting and insightful.
