This is a new scam (or someone in the book's history wanted to make it look real). Smearing ink onto the facsimile signature to give the impression it is real (to someone uninformed)
The same seller did the same thing to another copy of the book too:
Yep, and he is well aware they aren't real as I provided him with the link to the tolkienbooks.net article that shows the editions with facsimile signatures. Unfortunately, I don't get a report listing button at all, so nothing I can do (and like Abe, eBay usually doesn't remove listings anyway)
eBay seem to be going to great lengths to stop people from reporting items, by hiding how to do it🤦
They have put a small question mark at the very bottom of the screen on the web version. If you click on that, you get a Report Option.

Thanks, Trotter - Yeah I found it. They really have made it hard to find. On desktop, I had to click the "?" icon. They really want to just let the dodgy listings run because of the buyer doesn't complain, they get their cut. What a world we live in!
Amazon didn't take that listing down for the RotK, despite them already having to issue a refund on that same book once with an identical listing. It is bizarre. I provided them with the proof as well.

MOD edit - Deleted as no evidence was provided.
I think you need a little more evidence of a scam before posting someone's listings as not being legit. I'm fairly sure they are legit, as I made the slipcase for the 3 US 1st Editions a long time ago. Not positive it is the same person, but i suspect it is, and they have collected for the last 30 years or so.

Thanks for your reply. Can people please not post that items are scam listing with no evidence on this site? It feels wrong to you is not a valid reason to post.
Same book, third scam listing, third imaginary seller (neuendorf this time). Abe didn't even bother taking down the last one, despite me reporting it with evidence. They just don't care.
Different seller, same books, same descriptions. Sigh

Book is no longer available. Hopefully it was taken down rather than purchased
