The Silmarillion, 1998 Signed Numbered Deluxe Limited Edition - 400 of 500
This has been previously listed, and did not sell at listed price. Which is far too high.

1976 DE LUXE EDITION THE HOBBIT - no slipcase, but the book looks excellent.
I think this edition mostly (perhaps only) came in a box, can't remember seeing any slipcased impressions. Some of the impressions of the similar LOTR had slipcases but most of them were boxes too.

Yes, these were issued in a box, these were not issued in a slipcase until the UnwinHyman volume of 1990. There are two variants of the box, one with textured paper and another with more textured plastic covering.

It's an improvement at least, last time the BIN was C$15,000!
Yes, the dealer is trying to find a number that will sell.

It's a great edition but starting the bidding at nearly $6000 USD and an $11k buy-it-now seems wildly optimistic even with the CJRT signature.
Aren't these all signed by Christopher? Or were there copies without that?
Realistic upper-bound of price appears to be around £4000 - £4500 currently, though being in Canada might skew that downwards, just due to smaller local market.
Personally would not pay that much for one (I paid £590 for my first copy 14 years back, and that was high for the time, probably over the then-odds by a good £100). I paid USD 950 (£700) for my second copy in 2021, locally in NZ, which was significantly below the odds for the time.
They certainly don't come up very often, but for the product on offer (which is really nice), prices have gotten a bit silly, I think.
