[George Selden] [Cricket in Times Square] Tolkien, J.R.R.
The Hobbit
Boston: Houghton Mifflin Company, [1955]. American edition, seventh impression, bound from British sheets. 8vo, 315pp. Color frontis, illustrations, and map endpapers by Tolkien. Publisher's brown cloth, lettered in black, in illustrated jacket. Lengthy inscription from George [Selden] Thompson on the ffep. Few smudges to endpapers and boards else a near fine copy in very good jacket, without a printed price, and with toning flaps and a tear to bottom edge of front panel.
Very interesting provenance on this Tolkien classic, with a warm gift inscription from George Selden Thompson to a prominent New York physician: "...You will see that this is more than a children's book if you can find time to read its splendid sequel, The Lord of the Rings."
Price: $1,500.00

(Best shape I've seen a 6th UK impression in a long time, probably in better shape than mine)

Beautifully preserved UK 1954 Hobbit, for sure, and not only the dust jacket, the boards look pristine, as well as the inside pages.
I have a UK one which is not so well preserved (far from it), and a US one which is near fine like this one.
