Curious as to whether this price is the "new normal" or if this is an anomaly. Also, curious if prices of non-US books already in the US might be increasing due to the practical difficulties (and increased costs) of sending to the US in the Trump world (way too much hassle now from NZ, for instance, except via very expensive courier services).
This is the most I've ever seen a 1st printing of this volume go for...feels like an anomaly as the buyer paid nearly twice what these have been going for over the past few years. They must have really wanted it to pay such a high price. This particular item was located in Canada, so wouldn't be helpful with your theory on US shipping costs connected to collecting here in the US, although I would definitely agree that tariffs are making already high post pandemic shipping costs unattainable for many.
Ahh, I missed that it was in Canada, so indeed rules that theory out. I'd have expected USD 750 - 800 for this, personally.
Ended at £3800… I think a couple bidders got a little carried away hereSamwiseTheBrave wrote:

Not a very interesting price, but interesting to see that they made a dust jacket for it.
Dustjacket and replaced spine. The DJ was a file I did years ago that I supplied to the seller a while back (a collector I chat with from time to time - nice guy).
I suspect he will need to lower the price a bit, given the repaired nature of the book, but we live in random times.

Agreed - I saw the price and face-palmed a little! I would not be surprised to see that sale fall through...
