I am looking forward to several things when my copy of this Hobbit edition arrives. I will be spending quite some time looking at the illustration inside the slipcase for which a photo was published earlier in this thread.

Right now, I am a little bit curious about the slipcase. How snugly the book fits into it? Is it most similar to the corresponding Lord of the Ring set released last year, the 2020 illustrated box set or the 60th anniversary non-illustrated boxset from 2014? Is it of the same thickness as the one for corresponding 2024 edition? Does it feel more sturdy because of the difference in book weight to slipcase thickness ratio compared with the Lord of the Rings set?

It’s the same thickness as last years LotR set. It feels very sturdy possibly because it’s a much smaller size. The book fits very snugly, at least mines does.

Thanks! Is it difficult to pull out? If you position the slipcase so that the spine of the book is downward, does the book slide out slowly, moderately fast, fast or not very much at all?

When it first arrived it was very stiff to get out. I’ve had it in and out quite a few times now and that super stiffness is gone. If you hold it with the opening directly downwards the book barely moves a few millimetres. You have to help it out.

The first thing I did was to remove all of the extras as it all felt a little too tightly packed for my liking.

So now the book sits nicely inside the slipcase and I keep the maps and pictures separate.

That is a great idea. I have always been a bit afraid to store extra material separately in case I screw it up somehow. What storage solution for this book did you opt for?

Still odd that they included the note about the isbn of the limited edition in the normal edition, and not in this one...but hey, Harper🤷‍♂️

This is new to me. Which edition are you talking about? (I.e. which version had the note about a limited edition on the copyright page?)
