£102 for the last item, madness.

Would any one here ever consider this item for $225 USD?

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/J-R-R-Tolki ... tible&hash=item1c2f213070

"Third edition fifth printing (19th impression overall) of J R R Tolkien's The Hobbit published by Allen & Unwin in 1970; hardcover with very good replica dust jacket, not price clipped (shows £1.75) in a book that itself is bright, square, and in very good condition. A good read and a great writer."

I can not think why you would want a replica dust-jacket on a 1970's Hobbit, as you can get them with original dust-jackets.

This copy should also not have a £1.75 on the dust-jacket, my current thinking is that £1.75 copies were probably 1972 copies. This copy should probably be priced as 25s/£1.25.

Late Hobbits like this seem to be going for silly money at the moment. I expect they will all be back to a tenner in a few years when the buyers all realise that there are literally millions of copies floating about. Right now we have a wealth transfer out of the mitts of the stupid going on.

Sorry about meddling with that previous post Jlong --I was just seeing if I could throw up an image of the item. It's a little large, but compressed it was tiny. Crazy prices though. You could literally have picked up dozens of 1970's impressions a few years back for pennies --& look at the prices now!

Why mention a 1978 Hobbit, I can't find it in the listing?

TOLKIEN - LORD OF THE RINGS 3 VOLUME BOX SET EDITION 1978 Hobbit !!!!!!!

I would not be happy that the reference to a 1978 Hobbit is because of PJ's Trilogy

Surely it's referring to the LR books themselves being 1978 6th impressions (TolkienBooks)? The word "hobbit" has just been tagged on to increase exposure of the auction. Yes/no?

Yes, it did, they have changed the description now.

This does not look too bad when looking at the box-set, but looks like they had very big mice, look at the rest of the pictures. To be fair does point out the issues, "Books are unread but covers are messed up. I have no idea how that happened but inside books are mint and they have no spine wear"

The seller is also using the horrible Global Postage Programme, which also deserves to disappear as soon as possible.

"Book" and "Slipcase" or "Book" (actually slipcase) and "Insert". Amazing how some peoples' minds work.
