Not pricey (a 2013 film tie in), but loving the DJ art, and form factor. Does anyone know if it is part of a set?
I've been busy this last months and would like to share with you a massive update in my collecting.
I've had a very good opportunity to acquire some deluxe and Super deluxe editions I was missing in my collection, as well as some pretty rare stuff, some with huge bargains.
- The Return of the King, Houghton Mifflin 11th Impression 1965 in very good condition (both jacket and binding). I have now the 3 colour scheme of this edition
- The Adventures of Tom Bombadil, The Farmer Giles of Ham, Smith of Wooton Major, Unwin Hyman, first paperback editions 1990, all three signed by Roger Garland
- I managed to complete my deluxe black quarter leather editions from the end of the '90/begining of '00 with the History of middle earth tome 1
- And found the first "monster" of this haul : a set of '63 Lord of the rings deluxe edition, unfortunately without the Pauline baynes's slipcase, but the 3 books are really in stuning condition, appearing unread with buckram and gold edges *almost* perfect. Will look for a custom slipcase to protect them. TTT has no defect as it is commonly found. They look really stunning on the shelf with the other *black* deluxe.
- second "monster" : a Deluxe Tolkien Collection set of 2008 with slipcases within slipcase for a really good price !
- A first US edition of the Children of Hurin from 2007 with bookplate signed by Alan Lee and Christopher Tolkien (this was sold by a fellow from theOnering who'attended the event and provided proof a purchase. Touching the signatures with the finger leaves no doubt about the authenticity of the sigs as the relief of the ink can be felt. Purchased also for a very good price !
- A deluxe edition of the Catlin Hobbit 2013
- The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings Collector's edition boxset from 2013 (also purchased for a very good price)
- A 18th printing of the Second US edition of the Hobbit (1964)
- Beowulf and the Finnsburg Fragment, 8th impression 1972 in fine condition, which enriches my Beowulf collection
- A 3rd "monster(s)" : a very good matching set of first UK edition of the Lord of the Rings from 1957 (7th/5th/3rd), which I bought for...85€ !!! : this is the most insanely low price I have ever achieved to get for this kind of books. Possibly my greatest bargain ever.
- An exlib copy of Essays and Studies 1953 with a perfect jacket without any markings, bought for 20€ !!
- A copy of the 1st UK edition of the Silmarillion signed by Priscilla and John Tolkien at Oxonmoot '77
- A very rare 16th impression (first thus) of the '66 Hobbit paperback with 40 pages mounted upside down
- 4th and 5th monsters : a '87 Super deluxe edition of the Hobbit (#483) and Super deluxe one volume centenary edition of the Lord of the Rings '92 (early #40/250) both in like new condition !!
- The Art of the manuscript hardcover exhibition catalog, signed by the curators (asked directly to Mrs Dornfeld who's kindly arrange the signing for me
)
- 2 lovely recent french editions of Les Etymologies (taken from Home V) and Du conte de fée (On Fairy stories)
- And last but not least, I met Alan Lee in Paris for a signing session : he's signed my FoTR from the '92 Houghton Mifflin 3 volumes boxset and the Hobbit from the '20 Boxset. AND he sketched a small drawing of Elrond in my FotR volume from this year Folio Society Boxset !! This is a small drawing but the event was sooo crowded and Alan so exhausted that this sketch is a treasure. This is my first drawing from Alan Lee and my ultimate goal now will be to try meeting him again to have my other 2 books remarqued as well :D
