Tove Jansson's illustrations for Swedish Hobbit

I always loved Jansson's take on Gollum. It's not at all what I envisioned reading the book even before the PJ films, but I enjoy it as a refreshing change of pace.

I've never seen that image of Smaug at Esgaroth. Terrifying!

There is a certain flavour to Finnish fairytales and legends that just come alive in her art. Her Gollum could haunt some remote marshland in eastern Finland.
