Lot 119 : First U.S. Edition of The Hobbit
Rs Ents
With 4 color plates including frontispiece, plus other plates and illustrations in the text, plus map endpapers. Original tan cloth lettered in blue. First U.S. Edition.
Third state with seated flute player on title page, maps at endpapers listed in correct order in list of illustrations, Chapter VII is labeled correctly on page 118; without the type flaws that appeared in subsequent printings. Ink ownership marks present.
Condition: Spine slightly leaning, faint soiling to spine and boards; very good.
