The 1998 Khandlendar compiled by Salman Rushtoes is a hand-made calendar made and published by Alex Lewis. Featured illustrators include artists with (somewhat unusual) pseudonyms Mustaphaa Goa Ttitt, Renee Neeneerenee, Serena Di'Consuello, Clarence Bywater-Hicks VI and Clara Brandybuck. The word "Khandlendar" is a pun on Khand, a region south of Mordor. Dimensions: 11 5/8 x 16 3/4 White comb-bound on the top String hanger

A little background on this was provided by a good friend of mine who knows Alex and Ruth well.

It was presented very much as a joke, obvious by the content that can be seen. It had all manner of whacky images, my friend remembers a tree with googly eyes for Treebeard, a "grotty flat [apartment] door" in LLangollen, which the owner had named Rivendell, with a sign that read 'The Last Homely House', It was large, A3 or A2 and is believed to be a run of only ten copies, all hand drawn.

All told, it sounds like a whacky and fun item for people who like that sort of thing.

It is a gem in my collection. Indeed, only ten were produced by Alex Lewis. I can’t believe that one appeared on EBay for sale. It is that rare.

Attached is a picture of the July illustration “Riddles in the Dark.” From the monthly illos to the text and daily square entries, it is a comedic tour de force.
