Stanley writes to Tolkien with news that the first edition of The Hobbit has sold and a new printing will be issued almost immediately. He notes that Tolkien's manuscripts^{See [1]} that had been sent to GA&U will be returned seperately.^{See Hammond/Scull, Chronology, p. 222 and pp. 844-5 for more details on the manuscripts and how they were handled while being considered by GA&U for publication.[2]} Unwin also quotes to Tolkien a positive note from Arthur Ransome about The Hobbit.
