Stanley writes to Tolkien with news that the first edition of The Hobbit has sold and a new printing will be issued almost immediately. He notes that Tolkien's manuscriptsSee Letter from Stanley Unwin to J.R.R. Tolkien • 28 October 1937 (#2097)[1] that had been sent to GA&U will be returned seperately.See Hammond/Scull, Chronology, p. 222 and pp. 844-5 for more details on the manuscripts and how they were handled while being considered by GA&U for publication.[2] Unwin also quotes to Tolkien a positive note from Arthur Ransome about The Hobbit.

This letter is briefly quoted from in The History of the Hobbit.

It is noted in The Lays of Beleriand, p. 365 that Stanley Unwin returned Tolkien's manuscript of 'Beren and Luthien' to Tolkien with this letter.
