Rob Gilson replies to Tolkien's April letter informing him of recent results ( Letter from J.R.R. Tolkien to Rob Gilson • April 1913 (no earlier than 7 April and no later than 27 April) (#1137)). Gilson says that he does not know whether to congratulate or commiserate with Tolkien, and that his father believed that Tolkien should have earned a First.
