Ronald Eames of GA&U writes to Pauline Baynes. Her illustrations for Smith of Wootton Major are delightful. He is certain Tolkien will be pleased. he agrees that a smaller design is better for the cover ‘but as we are proposing to print this by litho’ fears ‘may not run to fourth printing’. GA&U find her double spreads ingenious. Hopes will be able to afford second colour. Will send proofs soon and asks for her bill.
