TCG Letter #1257

From
Rayner Unwin
To
Pauline Baynes
Date
10 September 1970
Type
Typed Letter Signed
Transcript
Partial
Rayner Unwin to Pauline Baynes writes that A Map of Middle-earth is selling well, and they already plan a reprint.

They are now thinking of a poster map of The Hobbit, taking into consideration that Thror’s map ‘is supposed to be cryptic and antique’. He encloses copy of The Hobbit with maps on the endpapers. One problem is that they are the wrong shape for a poster. ‘But there is plenty of visual material in The Hobbit, not least Tolkien’s own pictures which give one some clue as to landscape at least.' He asks for her opinion. He has not yet approached Tolkien but is sure he would approve ‘as he was filled with admiration for your map of Middle-earth.'

Pauline has written ‘after January’ on the back of the letter.
