From
Rayner Unwin
To
Pauline Baynes
Date
4 November 1970
Type
Typed Letter Signed
Transcript

Rayner Unwin writes to Pauline Baynes stating that GA&U are very happy to commission the Hobbit map, entitled There and Back Again as soon as she can fit it in, though they still have not approached Tolkien.
It will not be a high royalty as they have to pay the copyright-holder of the map, that being Tolkien, and making of posters involves extravagant discounts.
For A Map of Middle-earth the contract was £150 plus £50 for first reprint, plus £100 from the American edition if it goes ahead. For the poster they are prepared to offer £150 advance on account of a royalty of 2½% of net receipts.
