Katharine Farrer had written to Tolkien,Citation needed[1] in runes, asking if he would sign her copy of The Hobbit. Tolkien replies to her letter in runes. He says that he will sign her book and notes that his next book, The Lord of the Rings, will contain more details on runes and alphabets which many readers have asked for more information about.
