Upon his return from a night working party, Gilson replies to Tolkien's letter Letter from J.R.R. Tolkien to Robert Quilter Gilson • 21 June 1916 (date received) (#1541)[1] noting that he is cheered to hear from the T.C.B.S. This is the last letter written by Gilson to Tolkien before he was killed during the first day of the Battle of the Somme.
