TCG Letter #1620

From
E. V. Gordon
To
Kenneth Sisam
Date
10 November 1923
Type
Unknown
Transcript
Unknown
During the academic year of 1923-24, Tolkien and and his co-editor on the Sir Gawain volume have been snowed under with lectures and preperation for them, and by 10 November it has become clear to Gordon that they are not going to make the deadlines and their book. He informs Sisam of this on 10 November and also lays soem of the blame on the lack of library facilities at Leeds.

Gordon says that he and Tolkien will cut the glossary down as much as possible but hopes that OUP will allow the book to be longer than 160 pages. They feel that another 40 pages are required and he notes that sticking to the 160 pages will make the text less lively. Tolkien has agreed to deliver the "complete copy" by 23 April 2024 and will provide the text in around two weeks.
