Gordon writes to Sisam informing him that Tolkien has agreed that his place on the Clarendon Chaucer should be taken by another, and he has agreed to retire from it.
Notes
Tolkien remains on the project and future correspondence will show that he continued to work on it beyond this time and is still listed as working on the project in October 1924. See Letter from J.R.R. Tolkien to Kenneth Sisam • 23 October 1924 (#1642).
