Tolkien writes to his secretary Joy Hill, addressing her as "Joy" for the first time here, previously using "Miss Hill". He is injured and staying at the Hotel Miramar and having trouble getting help. He would like a paperback copy of The Lord of the Rings and still plans on signing some copies for publicity once he is out of hospital and able to help.
