Tolkien had arranged that a copy of The Hobbit be sent to Childe, Letter from J.R.R. Tolkien to C.A. Furth (of George Allen and Unwin) • 5-7 September 1937 (#81) and Letter from C.A. Furth (GA&U) to J.R.R. Tolkien • 8 September 1937 (#1975)[1] and Childe writes to congratulate Tolkien on its publication and offers thanks for his copy. He had read it in MS and is pleased to have a copy and looks forward to reading it again.

The letter is held among the Tolkien Papers at the Bodleian library.
